Orta, formerly Kar-i pazar, is a town and district of Çankırı Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey.The name of Kar-i Pazar means land where the books are written and read. Orta is geographically located on the border of Black Sea and Central Anatolia regions. The district basically remains all the lands between Aydos(Aetos ) mountain which covers all the southern border of the district and lies by drawing all the eastern and northeastern borders with the mountains of Mont Sani and Dumanli Mount;and Elden Mount and Karasivri Mount in the north. In the middle of all those mountains, with the help of the Devrez River, 15 km width and 30 km length lowland has been formed. During the nencency of the lowland, many different kinds of topographical shapes occurred such as fairy chimneys. Climate of the Orta and neighboring district Cerkes, can be called one of a kind. Those two districts are exactly located on the Köroğlu Mountains and almost all two districts' lands are more than 1100m above the sea level. The air is half humid, and because of the altitude, foggy days are common in a year. Winters are long and cold, unlikely continental climates, summers are cool as well. The mountains' flora are, generally, either forests or anthropogenic steps. Many alpine cabin lands can be found on the tops of the mountains or highlands. Historical district center, was located on 2 km western part of today's district center because of the floods was used to destroy center in that times. And many historic and prehistoric building bases even today can be found in those fields. The valley's history extends into the neolithic and paleolithic ages. Many Phrygian pots even today can be found around the line of the Devrez. And also Galatians, first Christians of the Anatolia, have settled the region and built an underground city 8 km away from the district center named Huyuk village. Naturally this valley and the mountains in the south, have always been the border of the north and the south, black sea and Anatolia. The Aydos mountains were the natural country walls of the Paphlagonia against Galatia. In the Roman period city was known with the first church ritual rule arrangements. In the sakaeli(sakalin) and huyuk ancient towns, and three more towns which have been fulfilled by ground because of the floods, between Orta and sub district of yaylakent, a big and mysterious history is still waiting for the historians to discover. In the paphlagoinan period, hellenic tribes of venets(the founders of Venice) settled the area and stayed until the turkification of Anatolia. Today's people of the city has been United under the nationality of Turkish,but most of the local families, migrated from Balkans, Caucasus, Crimea and the cities around. District center s people migrated and mixed mostly, but, Venetian and Paphlagonian hellenic type of phenotype even today can be seen on the faces who lives mostly on the villages.
